5:30 – 7:30 PM

“The Third Space,” Workshop West Playwrights’ Theatre

11516 103 St NW, Edmonton

Members of the Professional Arts Coalition of Edmonton (PACE) will be called on to vote on a sharply defined new mandate and new structure for the organization at this year’s Annual General Meeting.

A one-day facilitated workshop on the future of PACE was held at the Jubilee Auditorium on September 26th. The leadership of a good number of important Edmonton Arts organizations as well as professional artists spent the day critically examining the role that PACE could and should play in 2018 and the structures that would make that function reasonably sustainable.

The workshop was the culmination of a process that started at last year’s AGM when it was actually proposed that PACE consider suspending operations in the face of weak volunteer support and financial resources. The motion to close PACE was defeated by the members.

The workshop recommendations, simply expressed, are that PACE confine itself to two functions that have proved of value to the Edmonton Arts community in the past. The first is the holding of the #YEGVotesArts campaign in advance of each municipal election in Edmonton; so, a campaign conducted once every four years. The second is that PACE continue for as long as possible to organize and host the PACE Salons, which have proved popular with the community and have been well attended.

A third key recommendation is that PACE strip away all other functions from its operations so that the mandate can be filled by a volunteer Board of Directors. To this end, the current executive will present a series of motions to the AGM that revise the PACE mission statement, its bylaws, and its terms of membership.

We also are seeking a slate of officers for the new PACE Board of Directors: A Chair, Vice-Chair, Treasurer, Secretary and no fewer than one and no more than seven Directors-at-large. I shall serve on the new Board as Past-Chair only. The period of service is normally two years. If you are interested, please contact me directly at

Only those holding an active membership in PACE will be eligible to vote at the AGM.

Ken Davis

Chair, PACE
