Cultural Facilities and Artist Studios

PACE and the Edmonton Arts Council (EAC) invite you to an informal open discussion on Tuesday September 18th at 7:00 p.m. at the Ortona Room in the Ortona Armoury (9722 – 102 street).

John Mahon from the Edmonton Arts Council will talk about how cultural facilities and artist studios fit into the City of Edmonton’s Cultural Plan. This will be followed by an open discussion. This is the first of a series of discussions/talks hosted by PACE and the EAC to address the current space issues affecting artists and arts organizations in Edmonton.

Members of the PACE, the arts community, and friends are cordially invited to two free events:

Roberta Brandes Gratz from New York will speak on the topic:
URBAN REVITALIZATION TODAY - Places rebuilt or places reborn: is there a difference?
Thursday, October 12, 2007 at 7.30pm

MacLab Theatre, Citadel
ROBERTA BRANDES GRATZ
Urban Critic, journalist, and consultant Gratz is based out of New York City. She writes for The New York Post on urban development issues and is the author of The Living City: Thinking Small in a Big Way and Cities Back from the Edge: New Life for Downtown. Gratz, a board member at PPS, works to make urban revitalization more about creating places and less about pushing projects. Rejecting simplistic cookie-cutter prescriptions for success, Gratz advocates a more flexible and effective approach to downtown rejuvenation: urban husbandry. She illustrates how this organic, sustainable process empowers local placemaking by promoting low-cost community-based initiatives over large-scale trickle-down renewal projects.
